The Art of the Gig Poster‘This is a gig poster’ is a new exhibition at d-space gallery, Barnsley. The exhibition is celebrates the growing popularity of ‘limited edition gig poster’. It brings together seven poster designers from England and Scotland. The exhibition runs until 25th November and the gallery is open Mon-Fri 10.00-4.00pm.
The exhibition is on loan from West Yorkshire Print Workshop. The idea for the exhibition came from WYPW technician and course organiser Kate Desforges. She noticed a growing number of gig poster artists using the screen printing facilities at WYPW to make their art. The posters were showing at UK poster events such as Poster Roast and international festivals such as Germany’s Flatstock. She said ‘ It seemed a shame that we could not show off their talent in the place where the posters were made’.
The posters are in very small editions and are hand screen printed in up to six colours yet they sell for prices between £12 and £60 making them an excellent way to start collecting art. Over 20 are on display at the gallery and show a diverse range of styles.
